ISHLTconnect "How To" HELP GUIDE

Want to learn more about how to navigate the ISHLTconnect Online Community? Great! You've come to the right place. This guide contains simple, step-by-step instructions for using all of the features ISHLTconnect has to offer. Scroll through the document, or click on one of the links below to jump to a specific topic of interest.



The ISHLTconnect website is Once there, click the "Sign In" button in the upper right corner.

This will redirect you to a login page on (see below). Your Username and Password are the same as your ISHLT Members Only username and password. If you do not remember your username and/or password, click the "Forgot password?" link and follow the instructions.

Once logged in, you will be on the ISHLTconnect home page. From here, you can access all of the features that ISHLTconnect has to offer.


To update personal information in your profile on ISHLTconnect, you must update your ISHLT membership record, which can be done at

Click the Overview tab to upload a new profile picture along the left side of the page. On this tab, click “Add Image” to upload your profile picture. Your picture may take up to 24 hours to appear in your ISHLTconnect profile.

Click the Account tab to update custom fields like your Bio, Degrees, and Organization Name, which will appear in your ISHLTconnect profile. These updates may take up to 24 hours to appear in your ISHLTconnect profile.

Updates to your profile must be made at this page. Any updates you make on your profile page in ISHLTconnect may not be saved.


Once logged in on the ISHLTconnect landing page, Click on the "Profile" button under your name to be taken to your profile. Click on the "My Account" tab and select the "Community Notifications" button to be taken to the "Notification Settings" page, where you can select which emails you would like to receive from ISHLTconnect. This will allow you to customize whether you receive emails from your forums, and the frequency of these emails.

Here you can select "Real Time" or "Daily Digest" for any community you want to get email reminders about.

Be sure to click the My Account tab on your profile and select “Email Preferences” to confirm whether you are receiving Community Emails, Participation Emails, and Promotional emails from ISHLTconnect. 

Click the My Account tab and select “Privacy Settings” to confirm what information you would like to share with other ISHLT members.


The ISHLTconnect Discussion Forums are a great way to communicate with other members! There are many ways to connect with ISHLT members:

Open Forum – The Open Forum allows members to post discussion topics, general questions and messages for the entire ISHLT membership audience. All items posted in this Forum can be seen by all ISHLT members. This forum is open to all members, and everyone is automatically subscribed upon joining ISHLT.

All Communities – Click on "All Communities" to view a list of all Communities that either you are already a member of or that you can join. If you are an ISHLT member, you will see a full list of available communities. If you are not a member, you will see a list of ISHLT Professional Communities you can access. 

To join a community, click on the "Join" button to the far right. If you are a member, you will be able to view the latest discussions, post a message, or view the list of members. If you are not a member of the Community, you will see instructions above the box on how to join.


My Communities – Click on "My Communities" to view a list of all Communities in which you are already a member. This will include any Interdisciplinary Network or Professional Communities groups that you are a part of, as well as any other groups for Committees or custom groups that you may be a part of. Click on any of the communities to view the latest discussions, post a message, view the list of members, or upload a document to the Library to share with members of that community.

Once you enter a Community, you’ll be automatically entered into the Discussions tab to view a list of subjects posted to the forum. Click on the title of each thread subject to view the conversation. Click on any of the Thread Subjects to view the conversation thread. You can participate in the discussion by clicking on the Reply button, or you can click on the arrow button to display the Reply Privately option.

You can click on the Library tab to view documents shared with members. The Members tab lists the total number of members subscribed to the forum.

Post New Message – You can start a new discussion topic thread by posting a new message. Click on the Post New Message button.

Use the "To" field to direct your message to the appropriate community. Enter a Thread Subject for your message, then click in the white space above your signature to create your message.

When finished, click the Send button at the bottom of the screen. Your message will be posted online, and your post will be emailed to all members subscribed to that community (within 24 hours).

Deleting a Discussion Post – Unfortunately, only Site Administrators can delete a post in ISHLTconnect. If a post needs to be removed, please email for assistance.


Finding fellow ISHLT members is simple. Click the Directory option in the top navigation bar to search for fellow members using their First Name, Last Name, Email Address, Location, Community Type, or Community Name.

When you get results from the Member Directory, you can click “Send Message” or “Add as Contact” to the right of that contact, or click their email address to send them an email (if they’ve chosen to make that information visible to other members).


Depending on your subscription settings, you may receive emails updating you on the content of the communities of which you are a member. In these emails you will find several links which allow you to add content directly to the online community either in the form of a NEW message, or as a REPLY to the email you received.

For NEW messages, you can choose to "Post New Message Online" or "Post New Message via Email". Both options will post your message in the ISHLTconnect community, and both will send your message via email to the community's members. The difference is that the first option redirects you to the ISHLTconnect community's webpage to post your new message, but the second option does not. So if you want to view other discussion threads in the community, click the first option.

If you just want to post a new message via email without accessing the ISHLTconnect community, click the second option.

For a REPLY to the email, you can choose either of the blue buttons to "Reply All Online" or "Reply All Email". These options work the same as above, but will post directly to the email discussion thread. You may also "Reply to Sender" which will send a private message to both the email and ISHLTconnect inbox of the person who posted the content.

Other Options – "View Thread" will open your browser directly to the discussion thread. "Recommend" will allow you mark the content as recommended, similar to "liking" something on Facebook. "Forward" will open your browser to the ISHLTconnect page allowing you to forward the content to others.


The Job Board Community is open to all ISHLT members and there is no cost to use it. ISHLT members can view opportunities currently posted by fellow members, or post any job opportunities available at their institution.

To access the Job Board, click on the Job Board link in the blue navigation bar. If you would like to post any opportunities, or be notified of opportunities as they are posted, just click the blue Join Community button on the Job Board page.
